La Rocca Sanvitale di Sala Baganza is a fascinating fortress of medieval origin located in Sala Baganza, in the province of Parma. Born around the year 1100 as a defensive structure, it lost its military function over time to transform into a sumptuous noble residence and hunting lodge, hosting three great dynasties over the centuries: the Sanvitale, the Farnese, and the Bourbon. Although three of its original sides were demolished in the Napoleonic era, the building today preserves splendid Renaissance frescoes from the 16th century and is surrounded by the majestic Farnesian Garden.

La Pieve di Sant'Ambrogio, also known as pieve di Bazzano, is an ancient Catholic place of worship located in Bazzano, a hamlet of Neviano degli Arduini in the province of Parma. The church is first mentioned in a document from 920 and obtained the title of pieve in 1004. In the Middle Ages, it had great power and controlled many chapels in the area. The current building was rebuilt at the end of the 17th century and modified in later periods, including renovations after the 2008 earthquake. Inside, an extraordinary 12th-century stone baptismal font is preserved. The font is a single octagonal block. Each side shows relief sculptures such as Saint John the Baptist, Christ, and the Lamb of God.

To arrive comfortably, it is strictly necessary to pass through Sala Baganza, even though the GPS generally suggests lower roads that are much less convenient. The free parking (nice and large) is accessed from a dirt road which, coming from Sala Baganza, is located just beyond the lake of Ponte Verde, on the left. After leaving the car, in 2 minutes on foot you will reach the edge of the woods, in another 2 minutes you will find the entrance (very visible) marked by a sign.
