The Buckener Autal is a glacier tongue basin from the penultimate ice age. Before the land was reclaimed in the 1930s, people in the lowlands got their feet pretty wet. The first people from Grauel and Meezen also knew this - that's why these villages stand dry on the Altmörane, i.e. rubble pushed up by the glacier. Picturesquely located in the Aukrug Nature Park, the "mountain and valley village" Grauel impresses with a height of 65 m above sea level. The Buckener Au flows through the southern part of the community, which is a good 48 m lower than the hill. Viewpoints with benches invite you to linger. The Wagyu Farm Altenjahn writes about itself: "We are a father-daughter team and come from the beautiful and idyllic Altenjahn between Itzehoe and Rendsburg. The farm has been in our possession since 1868, pigs and sheep were previously kept here until cattle farming was later introduced It started with dairy cow farming and bull fattening. This was discontinued over time and switched to suckler cow farming with Angus and Simmental cattle. Since 2018 we have been breeding the noblest and most expensive meat breed: the Wagyu class instead of mass! The farm is run as a part-time business with around 30 cattle consisting of fullblood, Wagyu F1 crosses and some Angus cattle."
