This Jones Beach State Park road cycling loop offers a wonderfully flat and scenic ride, hugging the coastline of Long Island's barrier island. You'll cruise along a paved path, enjoying constant vistas of the vast Atlantic Ocean and the calmer Great South Bay, with a minimal 19 feet (6 metres) of elevation gain over 8.1 miles (13.0 km). It's an easy route that provides a refreshing escape, though the boardwalk sections can get quite lively with other users.

Planning your visit is straightforward, with parking available at spots like West End Bay Parkway and Jones Beach Field 6. While there are parking fees after Memorial Day, you can often cycle into the park for free. The 39-minute estimated duration makes it a perfect quick outing, but be mindful of strong winds, which can turn an easy ride into a challenging one, especially on exposed sections. Weekends and summer months also bring larger crowds, so consider an early start for a quieter experience.

This route is part of the much longer Ocean Parkway Coastal Greenway, which stretches for approximately 20 miles across Jones Beach Island, offering options for extended rides. It's a shared-use path, welcoming cyclists, runners, and walkers, and is fully ADA compatible, making it accessible for a wide range of visitors. The path also connects to other significant cycling routes, like the Ellen Farrant Memorial Bikeway, expanding your exploration possibilities.

The Jones Beach Bike Path offers a delightful coastal cycling experience, characterized by its flat, well-paved surfaces and continuous waterfront views. As you pedal, you'll take in the expansive Atlantic Ocean and the serene bays of Long Island, with opportunities to spot wildlife like oystercatchers and terns, especially towards the west end of the park. The route provides a refreshing escape, blending natural beauty with the iconic Art Deco architecture of Jones Beach State Park.

This easy 27.1-mile (43.6 km) route, with a minimal 92 feet (28 metres) of elevation gain, can be completed in about 1 hour and 46 minutes. While the path is predominantly flat, strong winds are common on the barrier island and can add an unexpected challenge, particularly on an out-and-back journey. Parking is readily available at Jones Beach, though a fee may apply during busy periods, and you'll find restrooms and dining options along the way.

Part of a larger network, this path connects to the Ellen Farrant Memorial Bikeway and the Ocean Parkway Coastal Greenway, forming a continuous 20-mile stretch between Cedar Creek County Park and Captree State Park. However, it's important to note that the full length is primarily an out-and-back, as a true continuous loop is not possible due to restrictions on the Robert Moses Causeway. This makes it an excellent choice for accessible bike paths, offering a long, scenic ride without significant climbing.

It's a fantastic option for cyclists of all skill levels, especially those seeking a quick, scenic outing without much physical demand. Be mindful of sun exposure, as tree cover is minimal, and wind can be a significant factor, so plan accordingly.

Part of the broader Ocean Parkway Coastal Greenway network, this trail is known for its well-maintained paths and tranquil setting. You'll even pass the remains of an old United States Life-Saving Service station, locally known as the Old Coast Guard Station, adding a touch of history to your ride. Flat 4.3 mile section of bike path along the Wantagh parkway to Jones Beach. 3 bridge crossings and usually a pretty strong wind coming from the south. One of the best rides in the area.
