January 30, 2024, View of Chuckanut Mountain

Situated at 1,410 feet, Chuckanut Mountain belongs to the Chuckanuts, or Chuckanut Mountains, which are part of the Cascades. This area is particularly special, as it is the only place where the Cascade Mountain Range descends to the sea. The summit can be reached via an out-and-back or loop trail without ever being too steep to keep up a good pace!

Cyrus Gates Overlook is an overlook at the end of a 3.5-mile gravel road. There's a huge collection of stairs that descend to Lost Lake from the overlook if you want to lock up your bike and check out the lake.

To reach the viewpoint, you will run through dense forest, occassionally offering views of Mount Baker. Once you reach the viewpoint, enjoy 180 degree views over the Chuckanut Mountains and endless lush forest.

Fragrance Lake is a fairly small lake surrounded by forest. You can swim in the lake on a hot day, or find a stick and let your dog go wild!

The forest here is almost cave-like, it's so dense and seemingly always cold. There are unique rock structures you can climb on to appreciate the vastness of the view.

Fragrance Lake is part of Larrabee State Park, which became Washington’s first state park after a 20-acre parcel of land was donated by the Larrabee family in 1915. The lake is surrounded by dense forests, but there are a few clearings to have a snack and appreciate the stillness.
