In the village of Glavotok, in a secluded spot by the sea, stands the monastery of the Franciscan Third Order, the so-called Glagolitic monks. In the 15th century, the Princes of Krk owned their own estate here and a small chapel, which stood on the site of the present-day sacristy in the church. Due to a series of intrigues and power games between the Prince of Krk and the Venetian administration, this area was finally handed over to the Franciscans in the last decades of the 15th century. The monastery was founded at this time. At the beginning of the 16th century, construction began on a beautiful church building. It is a single-nave church in the Renaissance and Baroque styles. The main altar supposedly comes from the Benedictine Abbey of St. Nicholas in Omišalj, and the author of the three canvases on this altar is believed to have been Girolamo da Santacroce. The Virgin and Child is depicted in the center. The two side panels feature depictions of St. Francis and St. Bonaventure. Source: https://visitkrk.hr/gallery/franziskanerkloster-glavotok/

The current monastery church was built in 1507 and is dedicated to the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary, while the monastery itself has been rebuilt several times. Due to the strong waves, the monastery was even moved a few meters into the shore in 1879.
