Hidden under the shifting sand and between the pines lie the remains of a rich past. About 3,000 years ago, farmers built mounds over the cremated remains of their relatives. Over the course of four to five centuries, the burial ground grew into a burial mound with - according to some estimates - over 3,000 dead. The burial mounds remained visible for centuries, until the nineteenth century and even to this day. Source: https://www.hartvanlimburg.nl/de/locatie/boshoverheide
