This is an artificially created noise barrier designed to protect the neighboring residents of Ivendorf from the noise of the busy port area.

The Pöppendorf ring wall is still very impressive today. It is an old castle complex that was founded with the repopulation of the Lübeck Basin. From the 7th century onwards, Slavic tribes immigrated and built protective castles. Here in Pöppendorf, an 8 - 12 m high protective wall was built, which was additionally secured with a wooden palisade with a battlement on the crown. The settlers found protection from attacks inside the almost circular castle. The castle only existed for 200 years. It was then abandoned in favor of Liubice Castle, the center of Lübeck at the time.

The approximately 5500-year-old grave was originally covered by a mound of earth. This was removed during the discovery and excavation in 1843. Since then, only the well-preserved burial chamber itself can be found here.

A cozy and very clean campsite! For cyclists on the Baltic Sea Cycle Route, this is a great place to spend the first night and then set off comfortably from Travemünde the next morning. There is a small restaurant, a huge washroom and a great pool ;) This is how your vacation can start! Big PLUS: Free lockers for charging power banks/cell phones/etc - TIP!
