The Elbe Lateral Canal is particularly interesting if you want to experience it up close: a good tip is to check out a section near Wittingen or Uelzen, where the canal is carried over roads and valleys on impressive bridges. When you go for a walk or cycle there, it's worth paying attention to the shipping for a moment: the freighters seem almost "silent", even though they transport goods weighing tons – this shows how important the canal is as a connection between the Elbe and the Mittelland Canal.

Eye-catcher! The bike path becomes very (!) narrow and poorly maintained for a few meters here. Perhaps switch to the road beforehand?

The cemetery contains graves from before 1900. A beautiful half-timbered building.

Best bakery far and wide. I have added the (current🤔) opening times via photo. Rasche is also represented at various weekly markets in the region

The Ratsteich was originally created by damming an arm of the Ilmenau as part of fortification measures. Today, the Ratsteich is a popular tourist destination: there are restaurants here, you can stroll through the park and relax on the benches. The Ratsteich meadow is also a popular place to play. I particularly liked the water fountain.

An idyllic church that invites you to visit. There are also benches nearby for a break in the open air

Here you can see a well-preserved viaduct. It is part of the former Uelzen-Dannenberg railway line in the Lüchow-Dannenberg district. The route is still partly preserved. For example, you can ride on it from Zernien with a draisine: www.wendlandimwandel.net/seite/ostheide-elbe-bahn/ The cycle path narrows here and you should ride along it carefully and with consideration.
