The classic. Good asphalt, but the traffic is somehow getting more and more numerous and increasingly stupid.

Parallel to Dammstrasse and a little lower down on the Rhine is this beautiful promenade with a café/restaurant (Arche) and a children's playground. You can also get on and off a pleasure boat at the jetty and take a lovely Rhine tour. Parking available.

"It is wonderful to take a walk around the Schermbeck mill ponds - completely relaxed in the shade of the trees. Paths lead directly along the banks in large areas. In the past, the ponds were regularly frozen over in winter and served as an ice skating rink for entire generations. In the warmer seasons, they are a playground and romping place for ducks and swans. There is something incredibly calming about the view across the water into the light rows of birch trees and the dense branches of weeping willows that dip their tips into the pond. Life around the pond may change every day - but here everything stays the same when swans quietly circle around." https://www.wir-sind-schermbeck.de/tourismus/sehenswertes/219-muehlenteich

Even today, the quiet Krudenburg still exudes a touch of bygone times, which is partly due to the remains of the historic Krudenburg castle house. A two-story tower remains today from the former castle complex from the 14th century.

<< St. Ludgerus Church Schermbeck >> "The Catholic church in Altschermbeck is based on earlier church buildings. The earliest previous building, the St. Dionysius Church, was probably built before 800 AD. Today's St. Ludgerus Church, which is a listed building, was inaugurated in 1915 and is a neo-Romanesque three-aisled basilica made of stone. On the southwest side are the spacious entrance portal and the characteristic square tower. The supporting structure of the central nave is based on a cross vault while the two side aisles are covered by barrel vaults. The recessed apse is framed by an apse arch and staggered triumphal arches. A special feature is the octagonal baptismal font made of sandstone, which probably dates from the 15th century."
