The Hoppenerhaus in Celle, Poststraße 8 corner Rundestraße, is considered the most magnificent half-timbered house in Celle's old town. The building, erected in 1532 "on behalf" of the Duke, was named after the Celle district clerk and treasurer Simon Hoppener. The presumed wood sculptor was Master Simon Stappen. The 400-year-old half-timbered house burned down on October 11, 1932, losing its old roof; only "with the utmost effort [was it possible] to protect the carved facades from the effects of the fire". The interior of the building is shown by preserved (floor) plans of the condition around 1910.

The "mountains" are sand moraines from the Ice Age; they are even more clearly visible on the path north of the Lachte river.
