The location is breathtaking: The monastery towers on a hill, just a few meters from the steep shore of the Arendsee. Especially at sunset, when the red brick masonry glows in the golden light and is reflected in the water, an almost magical atmosphere is created.

Windmills have existed in Wanzer since at least 1611. This particular windmill was built in 1805, though originally in Pollitz, 3 km away. It was moved to Wanzer in 1868 and is now maintained by many volunteers. We were lucky enough to witness an interior inspection.

A wonderful cycle path through the old border region. Beautiful, wide concrete slabs. Since the path also runs along the dike, there are fantastic views over the meadows of the Elbe and Aland rivers.
