One of the entrances to the nature reserve. The map shows two official campsites. I couldn't find the one 7 km away (only private property). I couldn't clearly identify the one closer to the lake in the terrain either, but in the marked map area there is a picnic area where I camped. There were no problems. There is also a shelter near this picnic area, but in 2024 it was pretty dilapidated and overgrown.

There are many trees that have fallen due to storms and you have to climb over or under them. You have to leave the path in places. It's a bit of an adventure, but you need surefootedness and some climbing skills. Alternatively, you can take the path above the river valley.

The reserve boasts several striking natural features. Don't miss the Hallamölla waterfall, Skåne's largest, with a 23-meter drop over five steps. The picturesque Brösarps Backar (Brösarp Hills) offer stunning views, including glimpses of the Baltic Sea, and the winding Verkeån River itself is a central feature, supporting a rich ecosystem as it flows through ravines and forests.
Yes, the reserve is rich in history. A key site is the former Andrarum Alum Works (Alunbruket), once Skåne's largest industry. You can explore the Alaunwerk Andrarum Slag Heaps and the Andrarum Alum Works Pan House Ruins, with information boards detailing the alum extraction period. The historic Hallamölla Mill, dating back to the 15th century, is located by the waterfall, and the ancient Havängsdösen dolmen can be found where the Verkeån river meets the sea.
Verkeåns Naturreservat is a popular hiking destination. You can find well-established trails like the Skåneleden (SL4 Österlen) on the northern side of the Verkeån and the Backaleden on the southern side, both generally following the river towards Haväng. The Glimmebodaleden is another marked trail, 5 kilometers long, offering ascents with sea views. For specific routes, consider exploring the Hiking in Verkeåns Naturreservat guide.
