August 19, 2025, Dívčí Kámen Castle Ruins

The ruins of Divci Kamen Castle are located on a rocky ridge above the Vltava River. It's a bit off the Vltava Cycle Route but is very impressive. Adult admission is only 90 crowns. 08/2025. The palace and walls are large and fairly well preserved. A great adventure for children. Sturdy footwear is recommended.

Caution when descending! This section is extremely abrupt. In combination with wet conditions, fallen leaves, and a sharp curve, it can become very dangerous. A friend of mine slipped at exactly this spot while cycling and suffered two fractured vertebrae. A cross has been placed there in memory of a cyclist who tragically lost her life at this location on May 1st, 2023. In my opinion, a simple warning sign is insufficient — this danger spot must be permanently secured and appropriately mitigated.

Here stands the oldest stone observation tower in Bohemia; it was built in the years 1822-25 by Josef Johann Nepomuk von Schwarzenberg and has a height of 18 meters and a great view.

Very nice big ruin »... Dívčí Kámen Castle is one of the few castles in Bohemia whose founding certificate has been preserved. In 1349, King Charles IV allowed the von Rosenberg family to build the castle. The castle not only had a military function, but was also the administrative center of the surrounding region. In 1394 it became the residence of the Bohemian King Wenceslaus IV for a short time when Heinrich von Rosenberg took him prisoner at Wildberg Castle in Upper Austria. ...« via https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Burg_D%C3%ADv%C4%8D%C3%AD_K%C3%A1men
