Alzey Castle

Alzey Castle

Highlight • Castle

The magnificent castle in the middle of the city now houses the court and a boarding school. The small inner courtyard of the castle is totally blocked by cars, not nice.

Kirchheimbolanden is the county seat of the Donnersberg district.
The core city is around four kilometers - as the crow flies - northeast of the Donnersberg.

The contiguous built-up area of the city shows considerable differences in height. The old town is at an altitude of 286 meters, ranging from 244 meters in Edenbornerstrasse to the built-up summit of the copper mountain at 373 meters. From the Kupferberg there is a distant view to the northeast, under good conditions the Frankfurt skyline and behind it the Kinzig valley near Hanau can be seen.

The town of Kirchheim was first mentioned in 774.
The city received its current name Kirchheimbolanden in the 19th century. A church of St. Remigius was mentioned as early as the 12th century. This church gave the place its name. Since the place was subordinate to the Lords of Bolanden, it later became Kirchheimbolanden.

The city is still called Kerchem today. The inhabitants are therefore also called Kerchemians. The city is abbreviated to Kibo.

The old town, Bahnhofstrasse, the castle and the Jewish cemetery are all designated as monument zones.
There are also numerous individual objects that are listed.

Kandelpforte Gate, Neu-Bamberg

Highlight • Settlement

The New Bamberg Ortsbefestigung
In 1320, Emperor Ludwig the Bavarian took the town and its castle under his protection and granted him the same rights and freedoms as the city of Oppenheim. With the privilege of freedom was also the right connected to surround the place with walls and ditches. The then built city walls are mentioned in 1668. At that time Palatine Karl Ludwig demanded right of way through Neu-Bamberg. When he was prohibited by Mainz officials - Mainz had pledged lien in the village and castle during these years - the Count Palatine Neu-Bamberg intervened, plundered the town and demolished walls and towers.

Kandel gate:
Of the three gates of the former town fortifications, only the Kandelpforte is preserved. The rectangular gate tower with semicircular corner extensions on risalites, round arch friezes and coats of arms dates from the 14th century. Roof and hood roof riders were put on in the 18th century. The arched gate, which was originally closed by a portcullis, was raised in 1906. Some remains of the medieval wall ring have been installed in houses.
