A very beautiful viewpoint. We used the short circular trail to acclimatize/prepare for Cerro Chirripó, as you're at a very high altitude. Due to the altitude, it can be chilly and windy; we were there in April, and a sweater was sufficient. I can definitely recommend visiting the volcano in the morning. Between 8 and 10 a.m., there are hardly any people there, and the sky is usually still clear at this time. Clouds usually move up the mountain from mid-morning onward. The view is magnificent; however, the turquoise lakes aren't visible during the dry season; they're probably only full during the rainy season. There's a small restaurant that leaves nothing to be desired; all in all, it's fantastic.

The place is very spacious, it is recommended to go in summer for good photos, completely pedalable. You can see the video "Basilica de los Angeles" on our Official Channel "BIKERS COSTA RICA" https://www.facebook.com/reel/1191863962050845

No matter how you drive the track, at the end you have to struggle up a mega steep "ramp". I had to push my touring bike with 4 bags for a very long time; but it was worth it.

Very windy but beautiful.

The best thing is to drive up there as early as possible to be away from the big wave of visitors. It's also much fresher up there than better to take a jacket with you ;-)

If you are fan of fresh produce markets, then you will enjoy this one. You can spend hours exploring and tasting all kinds of fruits and vegetables unknown to the westerners. Meat and cheese selection is remarkable. Enjoy

Absolutely. Several attractions are family-friendly. The Basilica of Our Lady of the Angels and the Cathedral of Cartago are welcoming for families. Additionally, the Cartago Farmers Market offers a vibrant experience where families can explore local produce and culture.
For the best experience at the Main Crater of Irazú Volcano, it's recommended to arrive early, ideally around 8:00 AM when the park opens. The weather is usually more stable in the morning hours, increasing your chances of clear views and avoiding crowds. Remember to bring rain gear and warm clothing, as the volcano is over 3,400 meters high.
