For the patronage of this house of God, and thus also of the associated parish community, the people of Kesseling have chosen two saints: + The prince of the apostles PETER, whose given name was Simon, but according to the biblical accounts of the New Testament, he was given the honorary title Peter (the word means 'rock' in the Aramaic language) by Jesus himself, as the foundation and cornerstone for the Church of the people of God. + Saint MATERNUS, this name also takes us far back in the history of Christianity, although not to the biblical origins. Maternus is the first documented bishop of "Colonia Claudia Ara Agrippinensium", modern-day Cologne.

Even though this house of worship in the village of Kesseling has two patrons, SAINT PETER (his figure with the keys in one hand and chains in the other can be seen outside above the entrance) and SAINT MATERNUS (the first documented bishop of Cologne), there do not need to be two highlights – at least according to today's logic here in the system. Previously created separately by sports, these should have been merged, which the komoot computer apparently did not recognize during the major restructuring. The first highlight created for this hike can be found at the following link =>> https://www.komoot.com/de-de/highlight/649426

The three-story columned altar dates from the 18th century. In the niches of each level are figures of a Baroque guardian angel leading a child by the hand, of St. John of Nepomuk, and a Madonna. The Archangel Michael with sword and scales crowns the altar. In 2009, the saints' figures were extensively restored. Paul Clemen (1941) described them as "good craftsmanship of the 18th century." Clemen continues: "In the niche, a new figure, above it a good Baroque figure of ... Nepomuk ... at the end, a coarse Baroque figure of the Archangel Michael..." The "new figure" he refers to is possibly the guardian angel. The current altar figure probably stood in Kempenich at the time, because in Paul Clemen's (1941) work, the figure can be seen on page 256 as illustration 213.
