The Elbe Cycle Route through Saxon Switzerland is a scenically spectacular, mostly flat section of the over 1,200 km long long-distance cycle route. On both sides of the Elbe, the well-developed, often asphalted route between Schmilka and Pirna leads past bizarre sandstone rocks, the Königstein Fortress, and the Bastei Bridge.

The Elbbrücke Bad Schandau, built in 1977 and a central structure of the B172, was closed in November 2024 due to safety defects. After a successful load test, it has been reopened since April 2025 for traffic up to 7.5 tons. Despite the reopening, a replacement new build is planned in the long term, while a temporary bridge is intended to provide relief.

The beautiful view of the Elbe sandstone rocks accompanied us from Děčín and it didn't end in Bad Schandau. You never get tired of this view....

The Elbe River offers a breathtaking view even in Bad Schandau. I come from the city of Litoměřice, where the Elbe River also flows. And the view is still beautiful and impressive!
