There are always small biotopes, ponds and other things to look at. The route is really beautiful, easy to walk, and halfway there you can stop for a bite to eat (pizzeria or good Franconian food - but you have to bring your time, because the restaurants in both of them are not the fastest)

It was even open today at around 1pm. The daily menu included currywurst, schnitzel and bratwurst. A really lovely and huge beer garden (all new seating outside), very inviting and the food is delicious. Also ideal with children because there is almost no traffic and the adjacent pond is always inviting to watch frogs :-)

Immediately after the blue poppy fields, the wetland biotope begins. Eight ponds run consecutively along the Klingengraben canal. Wetlands are systems in ecological balance and represent the primordial cells of an intact natural environment. They typically contain a standing body of water, which can also dry out, a silting zone with diverse life for pioneer species of flora and fauna, a riparian zone, and are separated from other areas of the field by a transition zone, often wet meadows and hedges. The standing body of water can be a pool, a pond, or a lake. It has biocenosis connections to surrounding flowing waters, which form the migration routes of living organisms. These connections can occasionally be water-bearing ditches, but can also simply be animal migration routes, as in the case of the well-known amphibian migration routes.

While Tuchenbach itself doesn't have large natural lakes, the surrounding region, particularly the Franconian Lake District, offers a variety of water bodies. These include man-made reservoirs like the Rothsee, former river channels such as Waldmannsweiher, and natural wetland biotopes like Klingwasen biotope. You'll find a mix of tranquil natural spots and recreational areas.
The Rothsee is a prominent man-made reservoir in the Franconian Lake District, highly recommended for recreation. It's about 210 hectares and offers diverse activities including swimming, sunbathing, surfing, stand-up paddling, and boating. You can also rent pedal boats. A 12 km path encircles the lake, perfect for walking, cycling, and jogging, with playgrounds and dining options available.
Yes, several spots are great for families. The Rothsee features multiple playgrounds and dedicated bathing beaches. Near Tuchenbach, Gasthaus Gumbrecht — Beer Garden by the Pond is ideal for families, offering good food and a car-free cycling route. Waldmannsweiher is also considered family-friendly, providing an idyllic natural setting.
Absolutely. The Rothsee has a 12 km path around it, suitable for walking, cycling, and jogging. Near Tuchenbach, the Klingwasen biotope is known for its beautiful hiking and biking trails. For more extensive options, you can explore various routes in the area, such as those found in the Hiking around Tuchenbach guide or the Gravel biking around Tuchenbach guide.
The Rothsee is an excellent choice for swimming and water sports. It has several beaches, including a dedicated dog beach, and is popular for surfing, stand-up paddling, and boating. Pedal boat rentals are also available there.
For tranquility, consider the Klingwasen biotope, an oasis for diverse plants and animals with small lakes along scenic trails. The Silberweiher offers a nice romantic setting with an elevated path. Additionally, Tanzenhaid Pond provides an extremely idyllic spot in the middle of the forest, surrounded by many fish ponds.

While Tuchenbach itself is small, the Rothsee is located a reasonable driving distance away, making it a feasible day trip. Public transport connections from Tuchenbach to the Rothsee area would typically involve bus services to larger towns like Fürth or Roth, and then connecting services. It's best to check local public transport schedules for the most current routes and timings.
Yes, parking is available at the Rothsee. There are designated parking areas, particularly around the Heuberg Lake Centre and other access points, to accommodate visitors enjoying the lake's amenities and activities.
The lakes are enjoyable year-round, but the best time depends on your preferred activities. Spring and summer (May to September) are ideal for swimming, boating, and enjoying the beer gardens. Autumn offers beautiful foliage for hiking and cycling. Even in winter, the Silberweiher maintains its charm for a quiet walk.
Many trails around the lakes, especially those designated for walking and cycling, are generally dog-friendly. The Rothsee even has a dedicated dog beach. However, it's always advisable to keep dogs on a leash, especially in nature reserve areas like parts of the Rothsee or the Klingwasen biotope, to protect wildlife and ensure a pleasant experience for all visitors.
Near Tanzenhaid Pond, the small village of Tanzenhaid itself has historical significance, with some houses, including an 18th-century mansion and an 1802 forester's lodge, listed on the Bavarian monument list. The Waldmannsweiher also has a historical background, being a former side channel of the Rednitz River, likely formed during a major flood in 1784.
