In 1962, Deutsche Bahn decided to merge its Lake Constance fleet into "Schiffsbetriebe GmbH". The company was based in Konstanz. Almost 40 years later, the railway workers decided to concentrate on their core business and sell the subcontractor on the water to the Konstanz municipal utilities. And that's where the problems began - because with the "Bodensee-Schiffsbetriebe" all the port and land areas were sold. In addition to twelve ports, 15 ships and numerous properties, the people of Konstanz suddenly owned a lion. THE lion. Several rounds of talks failed because the price expectations of both sides were far apart. The dispute lasted for seven years and a legal dispute seemed inevitable - until in October 2009 the mayors of both cities finally reached an agreement: The city of Lindau would become the owner of the entire port, and the Konstanz municipal utilities would have the usage rights for their subsidiary, the Bodensee-Schiffsbetriebe. On April 12, 2010, the dispute between the cities ended with the signing of the contract in Lindau's town hall - the lion and the port were worth 1.8 million euros to the city.
