Erected in the small park of the "Y Griega" in Los Ángeles de Atenas, it was inaugurated on April 27, 2003. Its hot-embossed iron construction was forged by the Spanish artist Manuel "Manolo" Torrecillas and represents a tribute to those men and women who dedicated themselves to transporting cargo by cart. The monument stands on one side of the old road to Puntarenas, which the ox drivers traveled daily.

In this small park there is a monument to Juan Santamaría, a Costa Rican national hero. Through his self-sacrifice the army was able to win the Second Battle of Rivas and preserve the country's independence.

Public transport, primarily buses, is widely available in Heredia and can connect you to various towns and starting points for cycling routes. For longer distances or specific trailheads, private shuttles or taxis that can accommodate bikes might be a more convenient option.
Parking availability varies depending on your chosen starting point. In urban areas like Heredia city, you'll find paid parking lots or street parking. For routes starting in smaller towns or more rural areas, parking might be less formal, often available near local businesses or designated public spaces. Always ensure your vehicle is parked securely, especially if leaving it for an extended period.
While many Costa Ricans travel with their dogs, specific regulations for dogs on cycling routes, especially within national parks or protected areas, can vary. It's best to research individual trail rules regarding pets. For general touring on public roads or less restricted areas, ensure your dog is well-trained, on a leash, and comfortable with the distance and terrain. Always carry enough water for both yourself and your pet.
