St. Vitus Evangelical Village Church The village church is a simple hall church with a tower attached to the west side. The current church was rebuilt in 1736 after the previous building burned down in 1733 following a lightning strike. In 1958, the dilapidated onion dome was removed and replaced with a new one. The clock also disappeared at that time, although its mechanism still exists. Two bells now hang in the tower. The larger one was donated by the Nebelung family from Hesserode in 1964. The origin of the smaller bell is unknown. Both bells bear an inscription and replaced the three previous bells that were melted down during the World Wars. The bells are still rung by hand. Structural measures were carried out in 2003 to secure the tower. The interior of the church is simple, but the light-colored paintwork and low pews create a friendly and inviting atmosphere. The wooden pulpit altar with its twisted columns and carvings dominates the chancel. A stylized dove is depicted at the top of the altar as a symbol of the Holy Spirit. On either side of the altar are pews, separated from the rest of the space by wooden screens. The organ loft opposite the altar displays the organ's facade. Only the console remains. The pipes are now completely missing, so an electronic instrument is currently used. The church seats 150 people, 40 of whom can sit in the loft. In 1989, the church underwent extensive restoration and renovation, supported by generous donations from the Lang/Ruegg families of Winterthur, Switzerland, the partner parishes of Steffenberg and Obereisenhausen, and the Evangelical Reformed Church of Winterthur-Seen. A small plaque in the church commemorates these donations. The heated church serves as a venue for choir concerts in winter.[10] A chronicle in the Hesserode rectory records various events from the parish's life over the past centuries. In front of the church stands the historic Nebelung family tomb, a black obelisk. (Source: Wikipedia)

Since its reconstruction, St. Gangolf's has once again become a three-aisled basilica on a cruciform ground plan with a double-towered westwork. The choir and the two transepts are topped with apses. Beneath the westwork is a two-aisled Romanesque vestibule with three freestanding columns and a partially painted groin vault. The main apse of the church contains the Gothic altar of the Virgin Mary. It was built between 1510 and 1515 and originally came from the church of Karritz in the Altmark region. It was brought to Münchenlohra in 1957. It was previously housed in Stendal Cathedral. The baptismal font dates from the 15th century. Source: Wikipedia
