History
It is no longer possible to precisely determine when the first church was built on the rock above the Lahn. Archbishop Hetti von Trier (814-847) is said to have consecrated a St. George's Church in "Lympurgensis". However, this construction is no longer verifiable.
The first verifiable church on the Limburg rock was built by the Count of Niederlahngau Konrad Kurzbold. The deed of donation for founding the monastery was issued by King Ludwig the Child on February 10, 910.
