If you see the castle ruins, you also need to see Lavington's Hole, where Cromwell's troops piled gunpowder and threatened to destroy the town above - forcing it's surrender.

These picturesque ruins are well worth seeing, and the back story concerning the destruction of the castle during the Civil War is fascinating.

Lovely old bridge that marks the beginning of the end of the Geopark Way - there is just the climb to the castle to go!

The woodland around this estate is particularly fine with some good paths. The hall is imposing, and the best view is from across the main lake.

Really nice woods with good open paths and fine mature trees of various species, including some big Beech trees and Oaks.

Can I bring my dog on hikes around Deuxhill?

Yes, the area is generally dog-friendly. Many of the public footpaths through the countryside, woodlands, and along the River Severn are great for walking with a dog. However, always be mindful of livestock in fields and keep your dog on a lead where required, especially on private estates like Dudmaston.

Are there any circular walks available?

For a moderate circular route that takes in some local heritage, consider the Route 45 Mercian Way Signpost – Highley and Alveley Footbridge loop from Quatt.

Where can I find walks with good views?

For expansive views, head towards the wider Shropshire Hills National Landscape. Trails around peaks like The Wrekin or the Long Mynd offer some of the finest panoramic scenery in the region. Locally, some routes extending from the Severn Valley Country Park, like the Highley Trail, promise 'big views' of the valley.

What kind of wildlife might I see while hiking?

The Severn Valley Country Park is a hotspot for wildlife that has become rare in the wider countryside. As you walk through the area's ancient woodlands and traditional meadows, keep an eye out for various bird species, butterflies, and other local fauna.
