Tips from the Community

Wandering Cloud
December 24, 2023, Caldron Mill Road and Mill Lane

A great opportunity to leave the roads and the traffic behind and cycle on scenic forest and field tracks to the bottom of Kirkdale - through and on the edge of Mell Bank Wood and Brockhill Hagg, where you can revel in the peace and quiet!

Worth stopping here to spare a thought for a gamekeeper on the Nawton Tower Estate who died in a car accident in 1993. There is a memorial plaque here in his memory.

There is a system of caves here, originally discovered in 1821. Found here were fossilised remains of animals no longer inhabiting Britain: elephants, hippopotamuses and other. You're probably not a caver, but you can certainly admire from the outside.

Unbelievably awesome views from the trig point on Rollgate Bank on Skiplam Moor! The freedom!
