Once a Romanesque basilica, over the years a sprawling Baroque monastery complex with a provost's palace was developed here. The garden was laid out in terraces: the upper terrace forms a typical Baroque garden, while the others slope downwards, offering panoramic views toward Fulda and the Rhön Mountains. An impressive site, not just for history buffs.

Ruins on the Ebersberg. Two towers and a wall of the castle are still preserved. One of the towers is even accessible and offers a great view of the Hessian Rhön (Wasserkuppe, ...)

The first church was built in the 9th century and replaced by a Romanesque basilica in the 11th century. Today's church is dedicated to St. John the Baptist.

We were here in the early evening. The steep climb was worth it and we had the ruins to ourselves. Really great here.

Schloss Bieberstein is a Baroque castle in Langenbieber, a district of the municipality of Hofbieber in the eastern Hessian district of Fulda. It was built between 1710 and 1740 by the Bamberg master builder Johann Dientzenhofer and is located about 2 km south of Hofbieber and approx. 16 km east of Fulda on the Kugelberg (505.1 m above sea level), a southern spur of the Hessenliede (517.7 m above sea level). South of the Kugelberg, the terrain drops into the Biebertal valley. In 1904, Hermann Lietz bought the castle and converted it into a rural educational boarding school in the spirit of his reform pedagogy. He succeeded in defending his project against hostility, especially from the Catholic Church in Fulda. Schloss Bieberstein remains the location of the upper level of the Hermann-Lietz-Schulen to this day. 125 girls and boys are looked after by 25 teachers and 25 other specialists.
