This should probably only be attempted with a good MTB its way rocky and technical. I did it with a Gravel bike because I didn't want to backtrack, but I wouldn't do it again.

Yes, there's a wide variety of trails. You can find over 140 routes in the region, ranging from easy low-level walks to challenging ascents in the hills, so there are plenty of options for every fitness level.
The area is well-regarded by the komoot community. Hikers often praise the mix of landscapes, from the riverside paths along the Clyde to the panoramic views from the Kilpatrick Hills. The well-maintained paths and clear signage in many areas are also frequently mentioned.
Yes, circular walks are very common in the area. Many routes are designed as loops so you can start and end in the same place without retracing your steps. A popular option is the walk through Formakin Estate, known for its unique stone monkeys and pleasant woodland paths.
Many trails in the Bishopton area are suitable for walking with dogs, especially in places like Knockmountain or through the expansive Clyde Muirshiel Regional Park. However, always be mindful of local signage, especially in areas with livestock or protected wildlife, and keep your dog under control.
For a gentle family outing, the View of Erskine Bridge loop from Old Kilpatrick is a great choice. It's a relatively short walk with good paths and offers interesting views of the iconic bridge. The trails within Mar Hall Woods are also a peaceful and easy option for all ages.
For a strenuous day out, head to the Kilpatrick Hills. The Loch Humphrey – View of Burncrooks Reservoir loop from Kilpatrick is a long and demanding route that rewards you with fantastic views and a true sense of wilderness. Be prepared for steep sections and mixed terrain.
Bishopton has a train station with good connections, which serves as an excellent starting point for several local walks. For trails in the Kilpatrick Hills, you can take a train to Kilpatrick station, which is located at the foot of the hills and provides direct access to many popular routes.
Trails around reservoirs like Black Linn and Loch Humphrey are typically a mix of tarmac access roads, grassy paths, and some boggy sections, especially after rain. It's always a good idea to wear sturdy, waterproof hiking boots to stay comfortable.
While the trails take you through beautiful natural landscapes, they don't typically pass directly by pubs or cafes. Your best bet is to head back into Bishopton or nearby towns like Old Kilpatrick after your hike, where you will find a selection of local pubs and eateries to relax and refuel.
The Kilpatrick Hills offer dramatic and varied scenery. As you ascend, you'll experience open moorland and rugged paths, with panoramic views opening up across the River Clyde, Loch Lomond, and even towards the Trossachs on a clear day. You'll also encounter scenic lochs like Loch Humphrey nestled within the hills.
Clyde Muirshiel is Scotland's largest regional park, offering a vast area to explore. For details on its visitor centres, specific facilities, and any alerts, you can check the official VisitScotland page for the park.
