March 21, 2025, Barra Airport Beach Runway

Unlike other highlights, the runway leads directly into the sea and can therefore only be used at low tide.

The airport can only be reached at low tide, which can lead to flight delays. Barra is served twice daily by Logan Air's Twin Otter.

Castlebay is the main village on Barra so pick up any supplies that you need here before heading off. The A888 road around the island is a nice ride on its own or you can link up with some of the other islands. The Hebridean Way long distance cycle way starts at neighbouring Vatersay and then crosses Bara, most people start the ride at the ferry port here riding an out and back to Vatersay to start before heading north.
