A narrow footbridge allows crossing the same viaduct on foot or by bike. Be careful if you are loaded: there are steep stairs and you will have to push the bike, although there is a small lane for the wheels. And very close by, something much less peaceful happened: in 1650, the Marquess of Montrose and his army were defeated at the battle of Carbisdale, one of the episodes of the Scottish Civil Wars. A seemingly forgotten place that has seen clans, soldiers, railways, and now cyclists pass by.

Built in 1867, it is one of the great survivors of the Highland Victorian railway. Its enormous iron structure crosses the Kyle of Sutherland and trains still run over it today on their way to the far north of Scotland. Before its construction, the villages of Culrain and Invershin, situated practically opposite each other, were separated by miles of road; for years there was even one of the cheapest train tickets in Scotland between its two stations: a halfpenny.
