The original town church was located behind the town hall, but it had to be demolished due to its dilapidated condition. Building inspector Gotthilf Ludwig Möckel (1838-1915) was commissioned to build the new church, which was consecrated on May 28, 1899. At 72 meters tall, the neo-Gothic central-plan building is the tallest structure in Gellert. http://www.entdeckerpfad.de/trinitatiskirche.php

The artist Frank Maibier, born in 1959 in Werneuchen near Berlin and living in Chemnitz, documented the formal and color models for the sculpture "Ornaments" on forays through the eight villages of the municipality of Lichtenau. As a sculptural homage to the joyful stylistic pluralism of garden fences and their owners, Maibier quotes their ornaments in his sculpture and has them implemented by a master metalworker from the municipality. Maibier, who often explores the limits of stability and balance in his sculptures, installations, and works on paper in order to question the principles of material laws and norms in both a concrete and figurative sense, dedicates his sculpture to Lichtenau's locally rooted spirit of resistance against the boredom of everyday objects. Property fences made of metal scraps are among the secret trademarks of private everyday culture in East Germany and Eastern Europe. They testify to the ingenuity of compensating for the shortage of products from the former socialist planned economy by repurposing and reusing leftovers, often from state-owned enterprises, in the private sector. With imagination and skill, garden fences with stylized plant tendrils, concrete-abstract patterns, underwater scenes, or flower bouquets were created from stamped slugs, rebar, gears, or brake discs. With their richness of form, they can still hold their own today against the lack of aesthetics of DIN-standardized fence irons from hardware stores and confidently convey their individuality into the present. The 🟣 PURPLE PATH 🟣 is a sculpture trail that connects Chemnitz, the 2025 Capital of Culture, with 38 towns and cities in the region. Numerous artists have contributed works of various kinds, telling an unknown history of the region. More information at https://chemnitz2025.de/purple-path/ Stijn Ank "Endless Column" in Hainichen, Gellertplatz Material: Bronze, white patinated Dimensions: 3 x 0.5 x 0.5 m Hainichen is the birthplace of the important Enlightenment poet Christian Fürchtegott Gellert (1715-1769). Friedrich Gottlob Keller (1816-1895) invented wood pulp paper here in 1843, on which newspapers are still printed today. The sculpture "Endless Column" by Belgian sculptor Stijn Ank finds its place between Gellert's birthplace (the rectory on Gellertplatz) and the Keller memorial, which can be seen within sight. He created it in 2014 and included it in the PURPLE PATH project of the European Capital of Culture Chemnitz 2025. With his white-patinated bronze sculpture "Endless Column," Stijn Anks has created a symbol that evokes the importance of paper as a medium and material for Hainichen and Europe. The column-like structure is reminiscent of a large stack of overlapping sheets of paper. How high would the stack of books by the widely read Enlightenment poet C.F. Gellert be if the entire circulation of his works were stacked on top of each other? Or how high would the stack of newspapers printed worldwide since 1845 using F.G. Keller's groundwood paper be? Enlightenment reading culture in the 18th century and modern newsprint in the 19th century were two pillars of the development of civil society in Europe. Education and information were the driving forces behind a new politically emancipatory self-image. (Text: Alexander Ochs / Ulrike Pennewitz)
