Past the bakery, built in 1735, we reach Zinzendorfplatz. Count Nikolaus Ludwig von Zinzendorf once granted religious refugees permission to settle here. Here is also the Kirchensaal, the central church building, erected from 1756 as a baroque hall church. We step inside, the interior is completely white, with a Herrnhuter star in the center of the ceiling. The interior is kept rather simple, there is neither a pulpit nor an altar, it somehow seems infinite. The current building dates from after 1957, the original building was destroyed in a fire in 1945. A small exhibition brings us closer to the settlements of the Herrnhuter Brüdergemeine, which have been a UNESCO World Heritage site since 2024. The core consists of the four towns Bethlehem in Pennsylvania (USA), Christiansfeld in Denmark, Gracehill in Northern Ireland, and Herrnhut in Germany. Over 1 million people worldwide have joined the Brüdergemeine. https://youtu.be/APY8BgHzpnU

Village church in Berthelsdorf. The interior is also impressive. It was probably first built in the 14th century.

Count von Zinzendorf's work, the Moravian community, has survived his life to this day and is respected and respected throughout the world. The Protestant Moravian Church has its headquarters in Herrnhut in Upper Lusatia, Saxony. On June 17, 1722, migrants from Bohemia and Moravia gathered there to renew the religious community of the "Bohemian Brethren", which had been persecuted in their homeland. The nature of Zinzendorf - a man who had learned to value tolerance and religious freedom through his upbringing and his life path and who had practiced it himself - was decisive for this work. The count came from an old Lower Austrian noble family that had converted to the Protestant faith in the 16th century. When the Habsburg lands were re-Catholicized, the Zinzendorfs moved to Saxony. They quickly gained a foothold and embarked on military and diplomatic careers.

Herrnhut church hall Our church hall is dear to our hearts like no other building in Herrnhut. We cannot imagine community life without it. It used to be called the "community hall" or "prayer hall". The foundations of our church hall date back to 1756. On the night of May 8th to 9th, 1945, the church hall, along with large parts of the city center, burned down completely after arson. The hall was rebuilt from 1951 to 1956 and now has space for around 600 people. Since 2005, it has been extensively renovated in several phases. It is the most important meeting room for the community and its guests. The white color of the walls and benches symbolizes purity, joy and redemption. The simple design shows off the most important thing, the assembled community. Until the middle of the 20th century, women and men sat separately in the Great Hall and even today the left side is called the "sisters' side" and the right side the "brothers' side". All meetings can be transmitted to the Herrnhut Diakonie buildings via video. Text / Source: Evangelical Moravian Church of Herrnhut http://www.herrnhut.ebu.de/kirchensaal/

Bell tower with the oldest bell from 1745 Zinzendorf bought the first bell in 1745 for 15 thalers for the community center. It was cast by Körner in Sorau and bore the inscription "Jesus' wounds, blood, death and pain remain the text in the cross community" and "Herrnhut should not stand any longer than the works of his hand go unhindered inside and love is the bond". The bell survived both world wars and was recovered from the Hamburg bell cemetery. It now hangs in a bell tower southwest of the church hall, on a remaining wall of the old community center.
