In the dreamy alleys of the artist village Grožnjan, imagination comes alive: Directly on the charming village square and not far from there on the large viewing terrace, the distinctive metal boats captivate the eye, while behind them the gaze can wander over the vast green hills of Istria to the horizon. However, there is another metal boat in the village.

Trg Slobode (Liberty Square) is one of the historical points of the old town of Buje. Once, the area Le Porte was located here, where the old fortifications and the former Porta Maggiore, the Great City Gate, stood. A partisan monument created in 1954 by the sculptor Vanja Radauš stands in the square, commemorating the fallen of the People's Liberation Struggle and the victims of fascism from the Buje region. The impressive group of figures shows two partisans carrying a wounded comrade. Today, the history of the medieval city fortifications and the turbulent recent history of Istria meet directly here.

The Ulica Prvoga svibnja is a particularly beautiful historic street in old Buje. It leads from the area of the former Porta Maggiore, the former Great City Gate, up to the church in the upper town. The ascending street, lined with old houses and natural stone facades, gives a wonderful impression of the historical character of the city. A short, but very atmospheric climb.

A particularly well-preserved section of the old town fortifications of Buje. This historic gate belonged to a later, secondary defensive line and formed an additional entrance to the fortified old town. Passing through the old archway transports you back to a bygone era. Together with the narrow streets, old houses, and other fortifications, this place impressively showcases the medieval character of Buje.

Kula svetog Martina – St. Martin's Tower The medieval St. Martin's Tower is part of the historic fortifications of Buje. The striking tower can be climbed from the inside and rewards the ascent with a beautiful view over the rooftops of the old town and the Istrian landscape. A small but particularly noteworthy piece of history in the heart of historic Buje.

It is supposed to be an easy route. However, it is a very narrow path and partly very muddy. Therefore, it is not suitable for small children and dogs (regardless of whether they are big or small).

At the beginning of July, the waterfall was not present. The strenuous path with a steep descent already had a climbing feeling, luckily there was still enough water to swim and we were also completely alone. Not surprising at 32 degrees. If the river carries no water at the beginning of the route, the waterfall is also dried up. Nevertheless, the effort was worth it, a wonderful spot on earth. On the way back, we decided again for the steep passage, if there is enough water - this is also a dead end here, the bridge is currently defective.
