January 2, 2026, Oltářík Castle Ruins

Oltářík Castle was most likely founded soon after the end of the Hussite Wars. Its founder is considered to be Jakoubek of Vřesovice, the most powerful Hussite hetman active in northern Bohemia. He acquired certain properties in the adjacent area and had a small castle built to protect them, which he gave a name with a religious connotation "Oltářík". The oldest written record concerning Oltářík Castle, dating back to 1450, is also associated with Jakoubek and his son Jan. That year, the two men mortgaged Oltářík Castle to Jan of Polensko and Vršovice, who ceded it to the lords of nearby Házmburk 18 years later. In the 16th century, the castle was in the possession of Vilém of Ilburk. At that time, the cramped and unmodern castle in a difficult-to-access location could not provide enough desired comfort and was therefore abandoned. The original name of the abandoned castle was forgotten over time and replaced by the folk name "Hrádek". In fine weather, there are beautiful circular views of the Bohemian Central Mountains from the castle hill, which rises high above the surroundings. The ruins of Oltářík Castle are freely accessible all year round.

Košťálov Castle is located just a few kilometers west of Lovosice. Its ruins, standing on a massive rock pile, which is one of the dominant features of the Bohemian Central Mountains, can be seen from afar and dominates the village of Jenčice. It is still unknown when exactly and who built the castle. The Vartemberks, Házmburks, Slavětíns and Kaplířs from Sulevice are in play. One thing is certain - it was the Kuplířs who held the castle at the beginning of the 15th century and faced a siege by the Hussites. Later, this family preferred a more comfortable fortress below the castle, the building of which gradually fell into disrepair. During the Thirty Years' War, it was already deserted.

The ruins of Ostrý Castle lie on the top of a volcanic cone (552.6 m) about 1 km southeast of Milešov in the Bohemian Central Mountains. The castle was built in the early 15th century by Václav Kaplíř of Sulevice. The first mention of the castle, called Schrafenstein in German, dates back to 1436. The castle provided security during the Hussite Wars.

The valley is located between Malý Žernoseky and Velemín, below the Lovoš hill. It leads through the river valley of the Milešovské stream for about 5 km and the valley reaches a depth of 50-100 m. Lovosic to Teplice, unfortunately it no longer runs due to landslides in 2013. There is also a bridge over the Opárenská údolí with a bridge of 275m. On the way through the valley you will come to the Opárenské mill, the construction of which dates back to 1649. Below the mill there is a cross stone with a stone with a plaque and an inscription from 1680 dedicated to the victims of the plague. Here you will also find the stone Imperial Stairs facing Lovoš at an altitude of 303m. It is also worth visiting the ruins of the Gothic castle Oparno, located in the village of the same name on Ostroh. The remains are preserved here original walkway and part of the castle palace. It was built in the first half of the 14th century, but since 1520 it has remained an uninhabited castle. The ruins are freely accessible.

The first mention of the Kamýk fortress dates from 1319, when King John of Luxembourg granted the Kamýk fortress as a hereditary fief to Jindřich of Kamýk. The king apparently had a considerable interest in the castle, which together with Střekov guarded the Elbe waterway. Jindřich z Kamýk is mentioned here until 1347. His descendants, as Kamýčtí z Pokratica, lost their claim to Kamýk Castle.

The remains of the medieval castle Kamýk stand on a steep rock at an altitude of 382 meters above the village of the same name. The castle was built by King John of Luxembourg to protect the road to Litoměřice. At the same time, the castle also served as a signaling function.
