The excavator 1452 with the type designation SRs 1200 is a bucket wheel excavator that was manufactured in 1961 by VEB Schwermaschinenbau Lauchhammerwerk for lignite mining and was in use until 2001. After the decommissioning, the bucket wheel excavator remained in the former Berzdorf opencast mine near Görlitz (today Berzdorfer See) and has since been preserved as a museum by the Association of Mining Eyewitnesses Berzdorf - Oberlausitz. Due to its local and technical-historical importance, it was also included in the official cultural monument list of the Free State of Saxony. In 1961, the bucket wheel excavator was set up in the Phönix opencast mine south of Leipzig and used for extraction until it was closed in 1968. In 1970 it was dismantled into individual parts and transported to the Berzdorf opencast mine. There he mined lignite until the opencast mine was closed in 1997. The bucket wheel excavator was then used for recultivation until 2001. Originally it was planned to scrap the excavator after decommissioning. However, the association of contemporary mining witnesses Berzdorf - Oberlausitz campaigned for the preservation of the excavator and made it accessible to visitors.
