Between 1924 and 1926, the building was restored to its classicist appearance based on a design by Marian Lalewicz. The palace was damaged during Luftwaffe air raids in September 1939. During the Warsaw Uprising, on August 9, 1944, the building was occupied by soldiers of the 2nd Company of the 8th Group, part of the "Krybar" Group, and held by Poles until the fall of Powiśle. After the war, the building's damage was estimated at approximately 60%. The palace was rebuilt between 1946 and 1950 under the supervision of Piotr Biegański. The building was expanded southward and acquired a new façade facing the extended Świętokrzyska Street. The architect also changed the shape of the dome and, on the courtyard side, created a copy of the façade of the Mikulski tenement house designed by Antonio Corazzi, which was not planned for reconstruction. The rebuilt Staszic Palace was placed at the disposal of the Warsaw Scientific Society, and later—after its liquidation—the Polish Academy of Sciences. The palace houses several institutes of the Academy's First Faculty, as well as the archives, and since 1981 also houses the reactivated Warsaw Scientific Society.

Staszic Palace, more properly known as the Palace of the Royal Society of Friends of Science, is a palace in Warsaw, located at the intersection of Krakowskie Przedmieście and Nowy Świat Streets in the Śródmieście district. The Classicist building was built between 1820 and 1823 at the initiative of Stanisław Staszic, designed by Antonio Corazzi, for the Royal Society of Friends of Science. It was rebuilt between 1892 and 1893, renovated between 1924 and 1926, designed by Marian Lalewicz, destroyed in 1944, and rebuilt between 1947 and 1950, designed by Piotr Biegański. It houses, among others, the Polish Academy of Sciences and the Warsaw Scientific Society. The palace was built between 1820 and 1823 in the Classicist style, designed by Antonio Corazzi, for the Royal Society of Friends of Science. It was erected on the site of a Dominican Observant church that had been demolished by March 1819. On May 11, 1830, the Society's then-president, Julian Ursyn Niemcewicz, unveiled a monument to Nicolaus Copernicus by Bertel Thorvaldsen in front of the palace entrance. After the Society was disbanded following the November Uprising, the building housed the Lottery Directorate until 1862. From 1857 to 1862, the Medical-Surgical Academy operated. Later, the palace housed the First Male Gymnasium and a boarding school. It was intended for Orthodox Christians. In 1890, it was decided to also house the Church of St. Tatiana of Rome within the palace. The building was rebuilt between 1892 and 1895 by Russian architect Vladimir Pokrovsky in the Byzantine-Russian style, in reference to the alleged "Russian past" of this location – the Moscow Chapel.[5] The façade was clad in majolica brick, from which a series of meticulously carved elements were crafted. The building featured a gilded onion-shaped dome, and the four corners of the roof were adorned with turrets topped with pointed domes. On August 22, 1897, Tsar Nicholas II and his wife Alexandra visited the rebuilt building. In October of the same year, construction began on the bell tower, which housed 10 bells. After the occupation of Warsaw by German troops in 1915, the palace housed the Deutsches Soldatenheim, a club for German soldiers and officers.
