St. Anne's Ponds and Chapel

Highlight • Lake

Stawy Świętej Anny is the recreational area of Mszczonów. Two beautiful water reservoirs located among forests, only 4 kilometers from the city, delight with their unique beauty. You can have a good time there. Take advantage of the beach and take a walk in the surrounding forests. There is also a designated place to light a bonfire for organized groups.
The patron of the ponds is Saint Anna, whose figure rises above the larger of the two reservoirs. The first chapel of Saint Anna was built in the 18th century. Currently, there is not even a trace of it. The historic figure burned down in the 1960s and a copy of it was stolen. The current chapel differs from the original in almost everyone. Its wooden case has been completely changed. The historical figure has been preserved only in the photos from the twenties of the last century, which have been preserved to this day in the album of the Poles from Badowo Mścisk. There is a theory according to which the chapel was erected as a memorial to the battle, from the time of the Bar Confederation, in which Polish troops led by General Sawa (of Cossack origin) clashed with the tsarist troops. The general was wounded there, and later hid in the vicinity of Mszczonów. Count Henryk Rzewuski described this story in his short story "Sawa", included in the collection entitled "Souvenirs of Soplica".

St. Anna, from their sources, supply the nearby Pisia Gągolina, the sources of which are located in the nearby Dwórzno. Going for a walk from "Święta Anka" along the river, you will reach the equally beautiful Grzegorzewice ponds after about a kilometer. The Gnojna ponds are also located nearby, where a fauna reserve was established in 2004. The whole area is therefore rich in beautiful water reservoirs, surrounded by forests and areas with charming landscapes, typical of Mazovia.

The larger of the two ponds of St. Anna is a place that the inhabitants of Mszczonów use for recreation, although it does not formally have the status of a swimming pool. The second, smaller pond has been left entirely to nature. Swimming and fishing are strictly forbidden there. This reservoir is an oasis of all birds and fish. Both ponds are separated by a dyke, which is often used by hikers.

The ponds and the bathing area at the St. Anne's chapel are owned by the commune, although the entire facility is directly supervised by the Mszczonów district of the Polish Angling Association.

Actually, there are two chapels, both rebuilt. The originals were stolen, and one even burned down; their tangled history is described on a plaque nearby.

There's a large tree growing by the café behind the palace. I remember it being a rare species, and I think it's a Ginkgo biloba. Such a specimen is unique in Poland. It might be a tulip tree, though. I can't remember exactly, but I think someone might be interested in this tree, especially if they're as interested in plants and trees as she is.

Beautiful and quiet place. The area has an interesting sculpture, squeezed between streams and ponds. Interesting history and two manor houses, separated by 40 years. Built by a father and son, famous doctors. I was enchanted by the silence and atmosphere of this place

The manor house was built around 1930 according to the designs of the architect Witold Pokrowski, commissioned by Dr. Mateusz Chełmoński. In the 1990s, the manor house was owned by Piotr Stefański, the grandson of the founder of the manor house. Wooden and plastered manor house, set on a rectangular plan, with a regular shape, the building set on a stone foundation, single-storey, partially basemented, with a residential attic covered with a mansard roof with slopes covered with ceramic roof tiles. On the slopes of all four elevations there are extensions. On the longitudinal elevations they are topped with triangular gables, on the side elevations they are covered with a pediment roof. The front elevation is composed of 3 wide axes, of which the middle one in the form of a four-column Tuscan portico. On the garden elevation on the axis there is a terrace and a four-column Tuscan portico supporting the balcony of the first floor. The interior layout is two-bay with a hall and a living room on the axis. The whole is composed in a manor style with clear elements of classicism.

The current palace was built between the tower and the early Baroque palace (currently non-existent) and received its current form at the turn of the 18th and 19th centuries after a classicist reconstruction carried out by Kazimierz Krasiński, the Crown Campiander, according to the design of Jakub Kubicki. At that time, a columned porch with a terrace in front of the main entrance was also built. The expansion of the palace complex was later continued by Józef Wawrzyniec Krasiński, who created a landscape park around the palace that exists to this day and rebuilt the small castle in the neo-Gothic style, which is the remains of the former Radziejowski tower. Over the following decades, Radziejowice was visited by people of culture, including Juliusz Kossak, Henryk Sienkiewicz, Lucjan Rydel, Jarosław Iwaszkiewicz, Józef Chełmoński, Stanisław Masłowski.
