The first chapel was built in a different place (more to the west of the current one) in 1837 to commemorate the wooden church of St. Helena built centuries ago on Mount Chełm by the Cistercians from Koprzywnica or the Benedictines from Tyniec. After World War II, due to the quarry operating nearby, the chapel was moved to its current location.
