In the center of Ślesina, precisely at Freedom Square (Plac Wolności), a fountain with a goose and the figure of an elderly man holding a goose under his arm were unveiled. The reference to geese in Ślesina is a tradition that dates back to the years when the inhabitants were involved in breeding and trading geese. They bought them not only in Greater Poland and then sold them to Prussia and Germany. According to the city's historical records, breeders "shod" the birds so they could withstand the hardships of transport; the geese were driven through pitch and then feathers, which protected them from injuries. Currently, few people in the area are involved in the goose trade. However, a true treasure has remained from the great-grandfathers of the current inhabitants of Ślesina and its surroundings – a culinary heritage inextricably linked to the most diverse ways of preparing geese. It is no coincidence, therefore, that the goose has become the symbol of the city, and the square another excellent place for rest and relaxation.

Napoleon's Arch in Ślesin – a triumphal arch located in Ślesin, by the road to Sompolno. The arch was erected by the inhabitants of Ślesin in 1811 or 1812, in honor of Napoleon Bonaparte. The inhabitants hoped that he would pass this way when advancing on Russia. The Emperor presumably did not see the structure.

Church of the Immaculate Heart of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Ostrowąż The wooden church in Ostrowąż is a unique church with a rich history and unusual architecture, standing out among other religious buildings in Greater Poland. 🛠 History - The first church in Ostrowąż was built in the 15th century, but it has not survived. - Another church, built in 1780, was demolished by the Germans during the occupation in 1942–1943, despite resistance from the local community and the parish priest, Father Julian Godlewski, who died in the Dachau concentration camp. - The current church was built between 1946 and 1948 according to the design of the architect Wilczyński, with the support of Father Władysław Górski. The wood came from the Powidz forests where a military airport was being built. 🪵 Architecture - The church was built in the Podhale style, a rarity in Greater Poland. - It has a log structure, on a Latin cross plan, with two side chapels forming a transept. - The chancel is enclosed on three sides, with symmetrical sacristies. - The gable roof is covered with sheet metal, with a bell turret topped with a dome with a lantern. - It is surrounded by pentices – covered arcades supported by wooden pillars. 🎨 Interior - The furnishings are mostly modern, without any significant artistic value. - Of the original furnishings, only a 17th-century turret monstrance, with emblems of the Passion of Christ and figures of St. Stanislaus and St. Adalbert, survives. - Stained glass windows, a flat ceiling, and a choir loft supported by pillars with a simple organ case. - The interior also contains a commemorative plaque in honour of the parish priests-martyrs murdered by the Nazis.
