It was established as the main parish church of the newly founded city, taking over the functions of the older Church of St. Vitus.

This church is a Gothic temple, built in the years 1439-1443. It was rebuilt after fires in 1601 and 1818 and rebuilt in the 19th century. The neo-Gothic tower dates from 1907, rebuilt in place of the former Gothic one. Inside there are classicist altars from the first half of the 19th century.
