The Levada dos Cedros leads you along a narrow, mostly level path beside the water through dense laurel forest – typical of Madeira and truly atmospheric. Moss-covered trees, ferns, and the constant babbling of the water create a genuine jungle feeling. Be careful of the sometimes slippery surface when wet and enjoy the many views of the valley.

A very nice cafe with really good coffee from their own roast. The homemade pie is also highly recommended. The live coffee roasting is a special experience. I would have liked to stay longer.

A downhill mountain bike trail crosses the levada area. Despite the markings, it's difficult to see. Caution!

The levada is part of the PR14 classified hiking trail and is subject to a fee. You can check the IFCN (Institute for Forestry and Nature Conservation) website to see if it is still closed: https://ifcn.madeira.gov.pt/pt/atividades-de-natureza/percursos-pedestres-recomendados.html Unfortunately, this is currently the case, and you cannot pay any fees via the official "simplifica" fee page: https://simplifica.madeira.gov.pt/services/78-82-259

Don't go there for hiking! The entire area is a construction site. It stinks of urine everywhere. The lighthouse isn't anything special.

Beautiful levada, I was surprised how little was going on. Up to the source of the levada it is almost completely flat, but as others have mentioned, often muddy. Good shoes solve the problem though. Due to the dense and beautiful vegetation it is mostly shady. At the source there are many steps to the beacon. What was easy before now causes thighs to burn for those who are untrained:)
