The Aguieira Dam, also known as the Foz do Dão Dam, located on the Mondego River between Penacova and Mortágua, was started in 1973 and inaugurated in 1981. At 89 meters high, it is a multiple arch dam used for hydroelectric production, irrigation , flood control and recreation. Old railway bridge, fully restored and now integrated into Ecopista do Dão. It is almost impossible not to stop there to enjoy the excellent view over the Dão River. Note: Some time ago, in an unspeakable act of vandalism that could have put lives at risk, some of the metal plates (5) that form the floor were stolen. If you cross the bridge at night or in poor visibility conditions, extreme caution is recommended.
