Manínska Gorge

Highlight • Gorge

Manínska tiesňava is characterized by bizarre rock formations and rare fauna and flora. It is recorded in Slovak records as the narrowest canyon in Slovakia. The width of the narrowest walls barely suffices to cross the bus. The walls that close the valley are up to 400 meters high. Another piece is the Kostolecká tiesňava. I definitely recommend the Manín circuit, which is about 10km. It passes through Manínska Tiesňava - village Záskalie - Pod Veľkým Manínom - Limestone Cave - Partizánska Cave - Limestone Cave - Manínska tiesňava.

Považský Castle

Highlight • Castle

Also called Bystrica Hrad, this is a very beautiful castle ruin that has been carefully secured. Free access.
The castle is located on a limestone rock on the right bank of the Váh River. The entire district - Považské Podhradie - was named after the castle. As early as the 14th century, the castle had dimensions of about 80 x 40 m. Some sources state that up to 400 people lived in the castle at its peak. From the highest, northeastern part of the castle there is a wonderful view of the Váh mesto.
The end of the glory of Bystrica Castle came in 1698, when the imperial army, on the orders of King Leopold I, fearing that the castle would not become the headquarters of the insurgents, partially demolished it and set it on fire.

Try and turn right in the saddle in the future and continue on Durdova. It looks like there is a smaller road and more interesting nature.

Forest Path Along the Canal

I recommend that you always stick to the left side of the canal, there is definitely a better road there, even if you sometimes have to carry your bike over bridges. There is no planned underpass for cyclists

Cross of Durdove

Highlight • Monument

The paths are unfortunately not yet recorded in Openstreetmap. Leaving Durdove for the mountain, you can follow the double-cross markings on the trees. At the point stands a cross that is lit up at night. There is a barbecue area and a guestbook. The view is amazing.

The Manínska tiesňava (literally Manín Gorge in German) is a narrow valley about 0.8 km long between the towns of Považská Teplá and Záskalie (Považská Bystrica district, Trenčín region) in northwestern Slovakia. The bottom of the gorge, which lies at about 380–390 m above sea level, is occupied by the Manínsky potok stream, which cuts through the Mesozoic limestone formations of the Sulov Mountains (Súľovské vrchy) between Veľký Manín (891 m above sea level) and Malý Manín (813 m above sea level) from the east. With a width of just a few meters at its narrowest point, the Manín Gorge is considered the narrowest gorge in Slovakia. It has only been passable for vehicles since the blasting of a rock in the 1930s made it possible to build a road. Due to the presence of rare plant and animal species, the Manín Gorge was declared a nature reserve in 1967. Today it is part of the Strážovské vrchy landscape protection area and is connected to the Kostolec Gorge (Kostolecká tiesňava) southeast of Záskalie by an educational trail. Use for climbing is limited to two rock faces in the middle section of the gorge.
