April 11, 2026, Dolné Diery Gorge

Spectacular, but please do not underestimate it! No large backpacks, use sturdy footwear, and children should be over 10 years old and sure-footed. You must be fit, sure-footed, and free from fear of heights, even on the hiking trails around the gorges (Horne Diery is even more demanding). Avoid wet days!

Again a bit of a gravel road. The climb is quite steep and there are big rocks on the road, so the bike is pushed. Better to go around on the asphalt. https://www.komoot.com/tour/2477679164

"All the train stations of the old Austro-Hungarian Empire resembled one another, the small stations in the small provincial towns. Yellow and tiny, they resembled lazy cats, sleeping in the snow in winter and in the sun in summer, protected, as it were, by the platform's traditional crystal glass roof and watched over by the black double-headed eagle on a yellow background." Joseph Roth, the Capuchin Crypt.

Border station on the Cadca-Zywiec railway line, built in 1884. As of May 2025: Due to the renewal of the tracks on the Polish side, the station is currently only accessible by train from the Slovak side. Rail replacement services operate on the Polish side, albeit less frequently than the trains.

September 13, 2024, Wielka Racza Summit

Formerly also Rajcza (Slovak: Veľká Rača), 1236 m above sea level – the highest peak of the Wielka Rača group in the Żywiec Beskids (in Slovakia these are the Kysuckie Beskids) Wielka Rača is located on the main ridge of the Żywiec Beskids, through which the Polish-Slovak border and the Great European Watershed run[4]. At Wielka Rača, this ridge changes direction. Wielka Rača is also a keystone for a long side ridge extending from its peak to the west (to the Slovak side). Between the three ridges of Wielka Rača there are three valleys, through which three streams flow: Rača, Klubinský potok and Oščadnica (Oščadnica) Wielka Rača is completely forested, but on its summit there is a grassy meadow, from which a wide panorama with a characteristic group of Malá Fatra stretches. The peak is also the highest mountain in the Kysuce Beskids (the Slovak part of the Żywiec Beskids) and one of the highest peaks in the Żywiec Beskids. Observation of the views is facilitated by a viewing platform built in 1997 jointly by Poles and Slovaks
