The Toa Baja Bay loop from Candelaria offers a delightful touring cycling experience, winding along the coast with continuous vistas of Toa Baja Bay. You'll traverse mostly paved surfaces, making for a smooth ride through a varied landscape that includes urban stretches, tranquil beaches, and lush mangroves. The gradual elevation changes mean you can focus on the scenery, enjoying the blend of natural beauty and local life.

This moderate route covers 25.5 miles (41.1 km) with a manageable 549 feet (167 metres) of elevation gain, typically taking about 2 hours and 22 minutes. A key highlight for planning your visit is the PR-165 road section, which becomes exclusively car-free for cyclists and pedestrians on Sunday mornings. This provides a unique opportunity for an undisturbed ride, so consider timing your trip for a Sunday.

What truly sets this route apart is the chance to experience a popular local cycling spot that's highly regarded by the Komoot community. It's a fantastic way to explore the Atlantic coastline and river systems like the Río de la Plata, offering a diverse backdrop that keeps the ride engaging from start to finish.

The Comerío Public Plaza loop from Ortiz offers a truly demanding touring cycling experience through Puerto Rico's central mountainous region. This difficult 32.5-mile (52.4 km) route, with its substantial 3781 feet (1152 metres) of elevation gain, typically takes around 3 hours and 48 minutes. You'll ride through lush, verdant mountains and valleys, often with the Río La Plata in view, experiencing what locals call "Paradise Between Mountains." Expect challenging climbs and rewarding descents on mostly paved, yet steep, inclines.

Planning your ride should account for the route's strenuous nature, requiring very good fitness. The Plaza Pública de la Trova Comerío is a key landmark, serving as a convenient starting or ending point where you can also explore local culture. While specific parking details aren't always clear, the plaza area is generally accessible. Given the tropical climate and significant effort involved, it's wise to carry plenty of water and consider riding during cooler parts of the day.

What makes this route stand out is its blend of physical challenge and the authentic natural and cultural beauty of central Puerto Rico. You'll encounter stunning panoramic viewpoints, such as those near the historic El Salto dam, offering impressive vistas of the surrounding mountains and foliage. This loop provides a unique opportunity to immerse yourself in the island's interior, a stark contrast to its coastal areas, making it a notable destination for advanced touring cyclists.

You can road all the way from Cataño county or you can drive until Punta Salinas beach and ride from there. If you came from west, you can drive trough Dorado county. The reference is allways the 165 road number. This sections is closed on Sunday mornings to cars and open exclusive to bicycle riders or pedestrians. On vacations days, the county dons't closes to cars on sundays. You can drive this road any day, even the hurricane one, but unless your own risk.
