Around 1300, a Gothic church was built outside the city walls; until 1447, there is mention of a parish church "Our Lady". In 1451, due to lack of space, the new church of St. John was built; the late Gothic choir of the predecessor building was preserved. I can no longer recommend this pass. People in highly motorized vehicles are turning the pass into a racetrack! Absolutely dangerous for road cyclists!

Schiltach is a charming town with half-timbered houses. It first appeared in writing around 1275 and is absolutely worth spending some time wandering around, soaking up the historic atmosphere and admiring the beautiful old town.

Around 1300, a small Gothic church was built on the site where our church stands today – due to lack of space outside the city walls. The magnificent High Gothic chancel of this old structure is all that remains today. The old coats of arms found in the attic were embedded in the three places on the chancel ceiling where the bell ropes used to hang. One coat of arms is the coat of arms of Württemberg, the second that of the Knights of Hornberg, and the third the coat of arms of the town of Hornberg. All three also date from earlier centuries.

With the arrival of the railway, the Protestant church received significant support. Large churches and beautiful rectories were built in both Schiltach and Hornberg. Hornberg boasts a small park (and Schiltach has one as well). It's very idyllic, with a great view of the castle and several ice cream parlors nearby.

Bridge over the Kinzig River between Haslach and Hausach. A beautiful cycle path along the Kinzig River.

The surface isn't the best, especially on the descent into the Heubach Valley, where there are a lot of fairly deep transverse cracks. In the Heubach Valley itself, the surface is excellent.
