St. Martin's Cemetery Church The St. Martin's Church is the former parish church of Münster, one of whose canons was always the pastor of St. Martin's. Today, the church is used as a subsidiary and cemetery church. The political municipality of Steinach bears the cost of construction. The church was to be demolished in 1803 as superfluous, after the St. Tiburtius Church was appointed parish church through secularization and the resulting expropriation of the collegiate chapter in Straubing. However, the citizens of Münster vehemently advocated for the preservation of the building. The demolition intention was then abandoned, but the state obliged the municipality to take care of the structural maintenance in the future. The church is a Romanesque building from the end of the 12th century, which was altered in the 18th century by redesigning the ceilings and windows. The tower on the south side has coupled round arched sound openings and a gable roof with original late Gothic stepped gables. On the west side of the nave, a Mount of Olives relief from the late Gothic period (1487) is embedded in the wall. In the right corner kneels the donor, Canon Johannes Atzinger, with coat of arms. In the vestibule is a Roman tombstone, which was brought to Münster by the canons during the Renaissance as an antiquity. The tombstone was created for the officer Aurelius Amandus, from the 2nd Italian Legion. The high altar is Baroque and dates from around 1720; the altarpiece shows the sharing of St. Martin's cloak. On the sides are the figures of St. Joseph with the Christ Child (left) and St. Anne with the Child Mary (right), and an antependium with the Christmas story. The northern side altar probably dates from the late Renaissance with the coat of arms of the Straubing patrician family Preu. Instead of an altarpiece, the figure of St. Stephen can be seen. The southern side altar is in the Baroque style around 1720. Instead of an altarpiece, there is a figure of the Mother of God with Child. In the upper section are angels and a wooden figure of St. Wolfgang, late Gothic around 1480. The frescoes above the high altar show the death of St. Martin and, in the nave, the ascension of St. Martin into heaven by Joseph Anton Merz, who also painted the Oberalteich Church. Pfarrkirche St. Tiburtius The late Romanesque basilica was remodelled in Baroque style between 1736 and 1738. It consists of the nave with a central aisle and two side aisles, the square choir with a semi-circular apse to the east, and the church tower on a square base in front of the west wall of the nave, which was extended in 1738 and covered with a pointed helmet in 1865; four bells hang in the tower. The church's nave is spanned by a flat ceiling; in the crossing in front of the choir, it is a cloister vault. Five arcades each separate the nave from the side aisles. The twelve apostles are depicted in paintings above the arcades. The high altar, erected around 1740, is flanked by sculptures of St. Roch of Montpellier and St. Wendelin. The altar panel, also painted by Johann Adam Schöpf, 1.50 meters wide and 2.25 meters high at the apex, depicts the martyrdom of Saint Tiburtius. The painter signed his work in an unusual way, writing the name J.A.Schöpf on the collar of a dog depicted in the lower left of the picture. In the upper part of the high altar, the eye of God is depicted in a triangle within a radiant halo and surrounded by angels. The side altars at the chancel arch were probably created, like the high altar, around 1740. The northern altar contains a carved figure of the Mother of God from the late 15th century, the right altar a statue of St. Sebastian. The altars in the side aisles from around 1765 are works by Mathias Obermayr. The right altar contains an older crucifix, a grieving Mary, and a John, from the first half of the 15th century. On the altar in the left side aisle, on a richly decorated base, stands a Pietà made by Mathias Obermayr from a single piece of lime wood. It is assumed that the Madonna with Child and "Christ at Rest" in the front arcades to the left and right are also works by Mathias Obermayr. The frescoes are by Johann Adam Schöpf; in two ceiling paintings and two wall paintings, they show scenes from the life of Saint Tiburtius, who died a martyr's death in Rome on August 11, 286. The monastery village of Münster was founded when a Benedictine monastery was established here in the 8th century, where relics of the Roman martyr Tiburtius were kept. Duke Tassilo III and his father Odilo are named as the founders of the monastery. This original monastery probably perished in the Hungarian raids of the 10th century. Later, in 1157, the canons from Metten Monastery founded a collegiate foundation here. They built the collegiate church of St. Tiburtius and, for the inhabitants of the village, the parish church of St. Martin.

While the St. Tiburtius Church from 1157 was the collegiate church of the chapter of the ten canons of Metten Abbey, the parish church of St. Martin was built almost simultaneously for the inhabitants of the village. It too is basically a Romanesque structure, but was baroqueized in the 18th century. The ceiling paintings were created by Joseph Anton Merz around 1750.

The Catholic parish church of St. Tiburtius is a late Romanesque basilica from the 12th century, which was redesigned in the Baroque style between 1736 and 1738. Particularly worth seeing are the impressive frescoes by Johann Adam Schöpf, which depict scenes from the life of St. Tiburtius of Rome. Unique is the signature of the painter Schöpf on the collar of a dog in the altarpiece.

Today I don't know what is meant by "Alter Donau". In the past (good old days) the old arm of the river with the Wundermühle was a dream.
