I don’t think Scott was ever here. The bike trails in this forest aren’t some idyllic geological daydream with newts scurrying around everywhere. They’re challenging and really tough Appalachian trails. Come prepared. Lots of sugary snacks and drinks, you’ll need the calories. Or listen to Scott and bring a picnic basket.

This is great, maybe one of the best paved multi use trails I’ve been on. I rode a bike and really enjoyed all the corners and short climbs as the path twisted along Lake Arthur. Road bike friendly, as many trees as there were I was suprised the asphalt wasn’t pushed up by roots at all and the surface was fast. Numerous pavilions, picnic tables, benches, bathrooms and green lawns for breaks.

The McConnell's Mill Covered Bridge, built in 1874, stretches across Slippery Rock Creek. This wooden bridge, constructed using the Howe truss design, rests on a stone foundation and is reinforced by steel. It is one of only four remaining Howe truss bridges in Pennsylvania. The bridge was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1980.

Daniel Kennedy opened a gristmill on Slippery Rock Creek in 1852. The mill was rebuilt after a fire in 1868. McConnell acquired the mill in 1875, replacing the waterwheel with turbines and grindstones with rolling mills, making it one of the first of its kind in the country. The mill ground various grains until it closed in 1928. The ownership passed to the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania in 1957, leading to the formal dedication of McConnells Mill State Park. Today is the mill. Today, interpretive tours of the historic mill are available at 1:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. in the summer.
