The Ridgeline Trail: Fox Hollow to Mt. Baldy Loop offers a classic Pacific Northwest hiking experience, winding through lush Douglas-fir forests, Oregon white oak savannas, and maple trees. You'll find abundant ferns and wildflowers, particularly in April, as the trail transitions from shaded woods to more open, meadow-like areas near the summit. From Mt. Baldy's peak, you're treated to panoramic views of the Cascade Mountains, Creswell, and the Eugene cityscape, making the moderate climb well worth the effort.
This 4.9-mile (7.9 km) loop, with 748 feet (228 metres) of elevation gain, typically takes around 2 hours and 18 minutes to complete. The trail is generally well-maintained, though sections can get muddy during winter and early spring, so sturdy, waterproof footwear is a good idea. The Fox Hollow trailhead is easy to find, located directly across from the Cascades Raptor Center, and dogs are welcome on leash.
Part of the larger 12-mile Ridgeline Trail system, this route is a popular choice for its accessibility and varied terrain, allowing you to experience nature right within the city of Eugene. It's a fantastic option for families and those new to hiking looking for a rewarding moderate outing, offering a blend of forest immersion and expansive viewpoints.
