Wooden shipbuilding in Schülp Today, hardly anything reminds us that Schülp was once a place of wooden shipbuilding. At the present-day Timmerbarg was the shipyard of Christian Mohr. There, on September 29, 1779, the last known ship was completed – a Cojütschiff about 62 feet long, a typical cargo ship type of that time. The ship carpenter Hans Frahm played an important role, who was considered a particularly talented craftsman. After the completion of the ship, he was recommended by the shipyard owner Christian Mohr to Nübbel, where he later gained great renown. This recommendation also serves as an indication that the Schülp shipyard probably ceased its operations in the same year. A possible reason is considered to be the impending construction of the Kiel Canal (formerly Kaiser Wilhelm Canal), which cut Schülp off from the waterway. It is not recorded when the shipyard was founded. However, based on the existing expertise and the size of the last ship, it is assumed that it may have been established around 1759 and existed for about twenty years.

Great that you can catch a glimpse of the lake again and again, that's not the case so often with all lake circumnavigations.

My dear wife and I passed through there on July 20, 1925, on our hike "Gut Deutsch Nienhof Westensee Schwimm." We had something to eat and drink in the farm café and visited the stone circle.

Particularly charming is the Servant Gallery, with its depictions of the apostles. These paintings were discovered by chance during renovations in the 1960s. A treasure.

Wooden ships were built in Schülp between approximately 1759 and 1779. The last, a "Cojüt ship," was built at the Christian Mohr shipyard under the direction of Hans Bock and Hans Frahm. Shipbuilding in Schülp ended with the construction of the Schleswig-Holstein Canal.
