Dotti Castle Neuenhagen

Highlight • Castle

George Leopold Dotti, an Italian-born merchant and leather goods manufacturer from Berlin, acquired the estate in Neuenhagen in 1885 for 570,000 marks and had his mansion built here with a representative driveway, outside staircase, half-timbered gables and a round-arched main portal. Dotti himself was involved in the design of the manor park and had an artificial mountain raised, from which an artificial spring gushed into a moat and emptied into a park pond. The main avenue of the park, lined with linden trees, can still be seen today. Dotti, like many landowners in Brandenburg at the time, became the chief of Neuenhagen. As early as 1898 he sold his mansion to the Union-Klub (owner of the Hoppegarten racecourse) and created a new home on Königsallee (today Hauptstrasse).
Later, the Dotti Castle, owned by the Union Club, played an inglorious role during the Kapp Putsch against the Weimar Republic in 1920 as a secret weapons store for the Freikorps supporters who were involved in the putsch. During the Nazi era, executives of the NSDAP appropriated the castle and converted it into a district training center. After the war, the Union Club was expropriated by land reform. After several conversions, the castle was set up as a hospital in 1948, later as the surgical department of the district hospital. Here worked u. the Neuenhagen doctors Dr. Franz Bunne and MR Dr. Achim Krause as manager. In 1994 the Neuenhagen hospital was closed. The Dotti Castle and the surrounding park is privately owned today.

August 31, 2025, Baroque Basin in Altlandsberg Castle Park

The remains of the historic water basin were discovered during the restoration of the Altlandsberg Palace Estate. The reconstruction of the Baroque basin is very well done and definitely worth a visit, as is the entire area. Unfortunately, the basin itself is not yet marked on the Komoot map.

June 20, 2023, Schloss Reichenow

The manor house with its battlements on the walls was built between 1897 and 1900, was badly hit in the Second World War, and was used, among other things, for the primary school during the GDR era. Today Brandenburg's red eagle flies again on the castle tower, now the "Hotel Schloss Reichenow with restaurant" is here.

October 15, 2022, Schloss Prötzel

Prötzel Palace was built in the Baroque style between 1712 and 1717 according to plans by Andreas Schlueter for Paul Anton von Kameke. In 1770 an English-style landscape park was created. Around 1800, Prötzel came into the possession of the Freiherren von Eckardstein. After the von Eckardstein family fled in 1945, resettlers who could barely make ends meet were quartered in the castle. Later, the LPG and the municipality used the castle as a school, gymnasium and warehouse, among other things. After reunification in 1990, the Prötzel art association used the building for its annual exhibitions. Efforts to restore the building, which was in dire need of refurbishment, and to find a new permanent use for it, failed. In 2007, the castle was acquired by the Armenian architect and developer Aram Ekavyan, who, together with his brother Vagram Ekavyan, planned a renovation of the castle and subsequent use as a luxury hotel. Since about this time there have also been discussions about the accessibility of the lake and the castle park for the public. In the meantime, this culminated in the statement by the lord of the castle that he only wanted to secure his construction site with the erected fences and prevent walkers from meeting his woolly pigs. According to the mayor's statement a long time ago, the lake route is still open to everyone (there used to be a circular lake route, by the way).
