s´Freile (colloquial for „Fräulein“) is not a historical or mythological figure, but rather a life-size stone figure of a spring goddess, created around 1805 by the Augsburg sculptor Johann Michael Haff. She sits in a round-arched grotto at the „Ursprung“ in the Ursprung valley near Hohenaltheim, draped in a delicate veil, without arms (these were once broken off). A small angel sits at her feet. The spring was constructed at the behest of Princess Wilhelmine Friederike zu Oettingen-Wallerstein and integrated into the landscape park „Der Ursprung“, which was laid out by Jakob Keller.

Schädelnester Excavations (1923, 1939) revealed evidence of religious skull burials. 6 human skulls, placed upright with their faces to the west towards the cave entrance. The presence of the uppermost cervical vertebra and cut marks on these vertebrae prove that the skulls were not buried skeletally, but were interred after violent separation. Alongside 4 male skulls without grave goods, 9 female and 20 child skulls were uncovered, to which 4000 perforated shells, partly from the Mediterranean region, and 200 drilled deer teeth were given.
